Shifting Grounds - Flex Band

"Shifting Grounds is inspired by a earlier work of mine, Blue Dances.  I was asked to arrange Blue Dances for an adaptable ensemble.  Instead, I decided to arrange, adding several new surprises, including a new introduction.  Blue Dances for Wind Ensemble is dedicated to the beautiful people of Puerto Rico.  After a devistating hurricane (Maria) I felt I needed to give back in some way.  My connection to Puerto Rico is deep.  I had the privalage of living there for over 9 years as a young boy.  When the island suffers, I suffer.  When the island celebrates, I celebrate.  Composing Blue Dances was an act of love.  The Latin melodies throughout the piece represent a positive outlook towards the future of this island.  These beautiful sentiments are what I hope I was able to have Blue Dances."
