Tune Book, Volume 2

for the Cello Method: Have fun playing the Cello

For 1-3 Cellos and Piano ad lib.

This new Cello Method lays a solid foundation for technical and musical progress. Simply structured, it is intended for older children, young people and adults. It includes Baroque and Classical pieces, but also breaks new ground with compositions in popular styles specifically designed to illustrate musical teaching points and techniques. Creativity is encouraged from the very beginning, with simple improvisation exercises, playing from memory, transposing, introducing variations, completing tunes and more besides. The cello is not just regarded as a classical instrument here, but as an instrument on which music of every style can be played. The accompanying CD provides modern arrangements for stimulating listening and playback versions of many of the pieces.

The Tune Books are designed to match the progressive structure of the Cello Method and offer a wealth of lovely pieces for cello and piano, many cello duets and a few ensemble pieces (for 3-4 cellos). Besides music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras there are also many popular folk, jazz and pop pieces in easy arrangements to enliven cello lessons. Most of the pieces are included on the playback CD to encourage practice at home and make cello playing more fun.

Gabriel Koeppen studied the cello at music college in Hamburg and Lubeck. After playing in numerous chamber ensembles he soon started working with jazz musicians, songwriters, film composers etc. Many years' experience as a teacher resulted in this Cello Method, with numerous pieces for tuition purposes and modern cello compositions. Gabriel Koeppen is the director of Flensburg Music School, where he also teaches cello.
