Description

"Alexander's Ragtime Band" was Irving Berlin's first major hit in 1911. Berlin wrote the song first as an instrumental, and when the tune alone did not attract much attention, he went back and wrote lyrics. Then Al Jolson, America's first superstar, sang it, and the song went to hit heaven. A million copies of the sheet music were sold in the first year, allowing Berlin to buy his mother a house out of the royalties.

This music has been arranged for clarinet choir by James Mack. It is scored for B-flat clarinets 1-3, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet. Alternate (optional) parts for this clarinet choir arrangement have been included for Alto Clarinet (Clarinet 4 or Basset Horn), and E-flat contra-alto clarinet in place of the B-flat contrabass clarinet. Duration: approximately 2 minutes.
