Description

Alberto Guidobaldi was born in 1967 in Italy, but has resided in Puerto Rico since 1993. His musical studies began in the "Scuola di Musica Arturo Toscanini" in Savona, Italy, where he studied piano and accordion. In June 2006, he graduated 'Summa cum Laude' at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico (CMPR) completing a Degree in Music with an emphasis in composition under the guidance of Professors Armando Ramirez, Alfonso Fuentes, Sonia Morales and the late professor Roberto Milano.

Guidobaldi's 'Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano' was composed in 2004. Although no particular Latin American rhythms are used in the composition, the syncopated Latin style was certainly a strong influence. The first movement is primarily based on a Lydian scale; the melody of the second has a light impressionistic influence; and the third exploits the entire range of the instrument with frequent use of the hemiola (6/8 and 3/4) typical of South America dances such as the Venezuelan Joropo. Duration 8:00 minutes.
