Sarah Miller

Dr. Sarah Miller is the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and Trombone Professor at Washington State University. In this capacity she assists with all aspects of the athletic band program and teaches private trombone lessons, as well as performs in the faculty brass quintet.

As both a trombonist and euphoniumist, Dr. Miller is an active member in the low brass community. She has performed several international tours and recorded two CDs with the brass ensemble Eurobrass. Recently her chamber ensemble, In Motus Quartet, received a grant to record a CD on the Emeritus Recordings label, which will be released winter 2015. As an international competitor, Dr. Miller has competed at the Lieksa Brass Competition in Lieksa, Finland, as well as won both the International Tuba and Euphonium and International Women’s Brass Conference’s Young Artist Competitions. Well-versed in the jazz genre, Dr. Miller was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, which was awarded the Best Graduate College Big Band by Downbeat Magazine.

Dr. Miller earned the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Low Brass Performance from the University of Kansas where she studied with Scott Watson and Dr. Michael Davidson. While at KU, she assisted with the Marching Jayhawks as well as directed the KU Women’s Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands. She received a Master of Music degree in Euphonium Performance from the University of Arkansas where she studied with Dr. Benjamin Pierce and Gerald Sloan, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia studying with David Zerkel.
