Anthony Williams

Anthony Williams currently teaches trombone studio at the University of Northern Iowa. He maintains a high volume of teaching and performing in classical, jazz, and new music settings. Williams recently recorded Grosso for Trombone and Electronics for Mexican born composer, Jorge Sosa’s album, “Plastic Time.” He has also premiered another work by Sosa, A Well Organized Disaster for Trombone and Percussion. During the summers, Williams enjoys serving on the jazz/trombone faculty at the International Music Camp.

Dr. Williams earned degrees from the University of Central Arkansas (BM), University of Northern Iowa (MM), and the University of Memphis (DMA).

A sampling performance engagements include appearances with the Arkansas Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, Memphis Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, and Alto Maiz Salsa/Merengue Band. Williams has also had the pleasure of performing with artists and ensembles such as the Ray Charles Orchestra, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Natalie Cole, Jimmy Dorsey Tribute Orchestra, Chris Merz's X-tet, Slide Hampton, Mike Fahn, Peter Erskine, Cuong Vu, Rufus Reid, Jeff Coffin, Roy McCurdy, John Mayer, Clark Terry, David Sanchez, Chris Vadala, Jack Wilkins, Joyce Cobb, Bill Tole, Mark Helias, Donald Brown, Ben Monder, Jim Cullum, Mike Fahn, and Luis Bonilla.

His playing can be heard on several recordings which include, big band albums by The Ryan Middagh Group, Dave Lisik Jazz Orchestra, University of Memphis ‘Southern Comfort” Jazz Ensemble, and The University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One playing lead trombone.
