How much do lessons cost?

Lesson rates are set by the instructors individually.  Most instructors teach half hour lessons in the range of $25-$30 per half hour.

How often are lessons and how long is each lesson?

Typical lessons are a half hour long, once per week. Your instructor may recommend longer or more frequent lessons if you are trying to accomplish certain goals in a shorter time frame.

Will I need to purchase music books or other materials?

Yes. Your instructor will want you or your child to have the proper books and accessories in order to make the most out of your private lessons. They will direct you to the appropriate departments at Groth Music to help you find those materials.

How often do I need to pay for lessons.

Most of our instructors ask for one month to be prepaid at the beginning of the month. Your instructor will be more specific about their expectations regarding payment.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

Cancellation policies are set individually by the instructors. Generally speaking, if the cancellation is not made with enough advance time for the teacher to fill the lesson spot, you would be responsible for payment of the cancelled lesson. In some cases instructors may be able to offer makeup times.

How many months are required or recommended?

We recommend taking one trial lesson with your instructor to start with. After that lesson, you’ll both have an idea of your goals, teaching styles, etc... From there you can work with your instructor to determine a regular lesson schedule.

Will my child need to practice before lessons?

YES! Private lessons are not a substitute for practice. The hard earned money you spend on lessons will only pay off when you or your child commits to a regular practice schedule. Your instructor will help you determine what amount of practice time is appropriate for your goals and your circumstances.

Does each teacher use the same approach to teaching?

No. Private instructors at Groth Music are not employees of the company and are not held to certain teaching curriculums. If you are looking for a certain teaching approach or a specialist in a certain style of music, please consult with our lessons coordinator.

When are lessons scheduled?

Lessons are scheduled during regular store hours. Each instructor has their own block of teaching time. You will need to coordinate a time with the instructor.
