Of the pieces composed in Vienna - the others are the "Humoreske" Op. 20, parts of the "Fasching-schwank aus Wien" Op. 26 and the Sonata in G minor Op. 22 - Above all, the "Arabesque" and the "Blumenstück" show Schumann from a new perspective, as a master of a cheerful and relaxed grace who knows how to write an exemplary piano setting of the highest transparency. The present edition is based on the first editions published by Mechetti in Vienna. The sketch of Op.18 dated October 1838 is reproduced in the appendix.
