Selected Songs for Piano Solo

Richard Strauss, best known for his operas and tone poems, also composed a large number of songs throughout his life. Just as Franz Liszt had previously done with songs by Franz Schubert, Max Reger knew how to artfully integrate the vocal part into the piano setting and thus create brilliant and effective piano pieces.

In order to correctly interpret this selection of twelve “songs without words”, the German song text (with English translation) was added to the music notation. Obvious errors, which can be traced back to inadequacies in the old editions available to Reger, could be eliminated due to the availability of the critical edition of the original songs.
