Description

At the time of Louis XIV, Marin Marais (1656-1728) was a composer and a member of the orchestra of the Royal Academy of Music. He devoted to the composition for the viola da gamba more than 600 pieces, divided into 5 books.

The Follies of Spain, is a Portuguese dance theme from the 15th century. This theme has been taken up and varied by many composers, including Lully, Corelli and Rachmaninoff.

The variations of Marin Marais were published in 1701 in the second book of his pieces of viol.
