"The red roofs"

In the autumn of 2006 the composer visited a Marc Chagall exhibition at the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden. He was highly impressed by Chagal's very personal world with all its colours, symbolism, mysticism and his idiosyncratic way of expressing himself. While he was contemplating the painting The red roofs a musical motive spontaneously came to his mind. This motive is found at the beginning of the work and is the starting point to the whole composition. The work is based on Chagalls painting, takes its inspiration in its forms and symbolism and plays with projections of the initial motive which develops as the work progresses.
