Description

For alto saxophone (doubles soprano saxophone) and alternating freely chosen saxophone.

"Sonates en arcs" was written at the suggestion of its dedicatee, Daniel KIENTZY who gave the first performance. The player uses two saxophones simultaneously in alternation with a saxophone of his choice. The work, characterised by an opening out to new playing styles, currently such a major preoccupation, harks back to some of the most ancient techniques concering at once the instrument itself (double aulos) and performance practice based on different degress of improvisation structured in remembrance of the great ancient monodies (or those outside our civilization).
