The first movement, "Spanish Waltz," needs only castanets and clicking heels to complete the image of Anadalusian dance but as the movement progresses, it takes on a celebratory feel concluding with more fanfare than dance.

Movement 2, "Unfolding," opens quietly and somewhat sad, but evolves from sadness to exultation.

The unusual subject for Movement 3, "Variations on a Fight Song," came about because at the time of writing of the tuba quartet, the composer had been commissioned to write a fight song for the local football team, and after coming up with several possibilities, she decided that one of her themes would work beautifully for tuba quartet, only since words were impossible, she told the story through variations.
