Music for Seven Saxophones is the final configuration of a work originally composed (for solo performer with prerecordered tape) for flutist Lisa Zakrajsek, who premiered the work on 20 October 1979 under the title L.Z. Clones Her Flute! Subsequent performances, both in the original form and as a septet for like instruments, led to the present revised version, which may be performed by saxophone(s), flute(s), clarinet(s), et alia(with appropriate change of the title, e.g., Music for Seven Flutes). The work is a seven-part canon.
