Description

All strong players know the importance of having a well-trained ear as critical in producing high-quality, confident improvisation. Though there is a wealth of material available to the student of jazz, much of it suffers from a lack of practicality. Recognizing this, the legendary teacher, Dr. Asher Zlotnik developed an ingenious system of ear training that allows for the instantaneous recognition of intervals, complex chords and progressions (and much more). He called it The Pivot System. The author spent five years studying this system with Dr. Zlotnik and was given Dr Z.'s blessing to teach it. He has now published a complete description of this revolutionary approach. As Dr. Z. was not a jazz musician, the author, a professional jazz pianist, has refined and augmented the system to benefit jazz musicians. Though the book is self-contained, the author has also created a companion website with videos and exercises to supplement this material. This system, properly studied, can benefit any musician, but jazz musicians, in particular, will find that this system will bring their playing to a high professional and artistic level.
