Pressure and Heat - Concert Band

Pressure and Heat, by JaRod Hall, creates the sound of construction and manufacturing. The brake drum and snare drum lead the percussion section in crafting the metallic sound of pickaxes splitting rocks and mining gems. The result is a powerful piece that reminds us that pressure and heat make diamonds.

Commissioned by Vicky Morris and the Roy J. Smith Middle School Band in Killeen, TX, this work allows each member of your ensemble to shine. Often relegated to the sidelines of accompaniment, low clarinet, tenor sax, and euphonium set the stage in this one with a powerful melody. Giving each section the chance to display their skills, Pressure and Heat is a showcase of wide-ranging musical textures that transport your audiences into the world of producing brilliant diamonds.
