Among the most frequently played original works for clarinet and piano, the present edition is based on the manuscript.

A contemporary of Mendelssohn and Schumann, Gade was strongly influenced by the former composer. This concert work for clarinet displays the best elements of the Romantic period, including a rich lyric, melodic style combined with lush, wamr harmonic backgrounds.
