Description
Elgar didicated his Enigma Variations, "To my friends pictured within." As many of my friends are animals I've dedicated these little pieces to them. Their purpose is to provide young players with some technically easy material which will capture their imagination, and show them how music can be used to depict familiar characters, such as these popular varieties of pets. A pupil of Grade 5 standard (UK) should be able to perform all the pieces, while a Grade 3 pupil would find them useful technical practice at a slower speed. They would also be suitable for a professional player to include in lecture recitals for younger children, who alwasy enjoy music describing animals. --Paul Harvey
