Jean Sibelius is readily recognizable – his symphonic works combine characterful portrayals of nature scenes through a chilly, Arctic lens. His incidental music for Belshazzar’s Feast includes a Nocturne with a violin theme reminiscent of the violin concerto and Third Symphony (two works written the same year). Once a popular encore and recital work for luminaries like Arthur Grumiaux and David Oistrakh, it’s relatively unknown now…undeservingly so.
