Description
A sense of delicacy and wistfulness should be maintained throughout the whole piece, with great care taken to ensure that the melodic line flows organically from one section to the next. The concluding five measures must be treated in a very free manner, with the repeated flute soli three-note motif played with gentle plaintiveness. Composed in 1994, A Waltz for Jennie was originally conceived (and is available from TRN) for orchestra, and I have made some recent minor revisions for this concert band version. This waltz is dedicated to my wife, Jennifer.
